About Hayley

Hayley Boulden

Tutor for Fiona Myers at Kernow Hydro, Portreath

Hayley is a very active outdoors person, who was born and grew up in Cornwall. She can regularly be found at the beach, swimming, or out on her bike enjoying the cycle tracks. This lead her to complete her Foundation degree in Health and Fitness management.  She always felt that helping able and non able-bodied children and young people to engage in all types of physical activities was extremely important, which lead her to volunteer with Freedom Surf, Cornwall Sports Partnership and Cornwall College foundation studies group.  These are wonderful organisations that encourage disabled children and young adults to partake in sports.

Not only has Hayley worked alongside ‘ITV Fixers’ to promote awareness of disabled children and their ability to overcome obstacles in order to enjoy sport, Hayley was also shortlisted for the ‘Extraordinary Personal Contribution’ category in the ‘Extraordinary Woman Awards’!

Hayley worked at The Track which is a Mountain and BMX Track facility based in Portreath. Her job role was to help with day to day running of the facility and to coach children in cycling from age 2 upwards, she then went on maternity leave with her first child Mila.

Hayley felt it was very important for Mila to be confident and safe in the water, especially living so close to the beach, so she booked into Swim Academy for Babies with Lisa Zachary at Chycara House in 2013, and started classes when Mila was 8 weeks old.  Mila has always loved swimming and is fantastic in the water.

After her maternity leave, Hayley went back to work at The Track where she met Fiona, who is a Swim Academy for babies Licence holder and Tutor. Fiona was building her own swimming pool at The Track.

“An opportunity to train to be a Tutor come up, which I jumped at!  I spent a term shadowing Fiona, learning how to create a fun yet nurturing environment to build a baby or child’s confidence in the water to enable them enjoy the water safely. I gained all of my qualifications and began teaching at Kernow Hydro, Porteath in 2016.  It is the best job in the world!

It’s a great feeling waking up in the morning, looking forward to going to work and getting in the pool.  I also get to work alongside the amazing swim academy for babies team.”
